Both CRT and LCD monitors are prone to dimming due to different reasons:
- Dimming in a CRT monitor happens because of low emission. If the power supply and electronic parts are fine then this is a likely cause for the monitor going dim.
- Dimming in a LCD monitor is because the backlight has become old, or the inverter that supplies power to it is faulty. In either case, replacing the backlight/inverter is far cheaper than buying a new monitor.
